| You Only Live Once (1937) [Father Dolan]: Shot in the stomach by Henry Fonda during a prison break, he dies shortly afterwards after ordering the guards to open the gates and let Henry go (all the while pretending that he wasn't hit). The Crowd Roars (1938) [Johnny Martin]: Fatally injured in a boxing match with Robert Taylor; he dies in the hospital (off-screen) a short time afterwards. We learn of his death when the doctor comes out of the room and shakes his head; his body is not shown. |
